Whether you’re gearing up for your very first interview, or if you are a seasoned interviewee – It is important to be as prepared as possible for your interview. It doesn’t matter much if it’s a phone interview versus the face-to-face, because recruiters and hiring managers love to pull out their favorite questions to ask any candidate as their arsenal. And don’t take this personally; Instead, you should get prepared!
Below we are sharing some of the most commonly asked job interview questions with you. But we’re not just leaving you high and dry to determine how you should best answer these… We’re also sharing tips and tricks to answering them!
Let’s take a look:
Tell me about yourself.
Here’s your chance to give your prospective employer your best 30 – 60 second elevator pitch about yourself to give them an idea of who you are. Be sure to include both professional and personal aspects. Where do you excel in the workforce? What do you like to do in your free time?
Why should we hire you?
We’re making you think, aren’t we? That’s good! The best way to answer this question is to seriously consider all aspects of the role, its competencies and responsibilities, and how you can best fulfill them.
What defines success?
Consider the role you are interviewing for. Is it a sales role where success is best defined by numbers? Is it a role where you strive to make a positive impact on people? You can also be honest. What does success mean to you, personally?
Tell me about a difficult work project or situation and how you overcame it.
What the employer really wants to know is how you are going to a handle a sticky situation you may find yourself in at work. Be prepared to share an example of how you have dealt with stress or pressure in the past in the workplace. Haven’t had one of those situations? Give a personal example instead, or describe a theoretical scenario.
What do you like about your job?
This is probably one of the easier questions to answer. Do you love working with people? Do you love analyzing data? Be honest here and try to focus on the job relevancy between the two positions. What can you relate from your current job to your potential new one?
What do you know about our organization?
Our best advice here is for you to do a bit of research on the place where you are interviewing. Head to their website and scope out their ‘About’ section, services or products offered, mission statement, etc.
What 3 adjectives best describe you?
Here’s a fun one! Be creative, and think about your best assets and greatest strengths. These could be adjectives that highlight your hard skills and your soft skills. Discuss the attributes that will qualify you for this job and set you apart from other candidates.
Remember: Stay calm, stay cool, and follow our tips and advice!
