In previous news, we’ve indicated the rise and applications of technology and how this affects the Human Resources (HR) Department. We’ve also discussed how Millennials are dominating our workforce and influencing our background check processes. But now, we’re going further still and taking a collective look at trending technology, its impact, and how the future generations are shifting the interview processes and expectations!

Multiple pre-hiring assessment tools are available to measure candidate’s skills. Companies are particularly focused on obtaining a predictive view of the candidate’s soft skills prior to any face-to-face interaction. They want to ensure the candidate has the ability to work in a team environment and has a strong work ethic, positive attitude, strong problem-solving abilities, etc. All of these are hard to gauge during a traditional interview. But, with strategic assessments at recruiters’ fingertips, having the ability to measure these strengths is becoming more and more a standard practice.

Virtual Reality (VR) isn’t something of the future because the future is now! If we incorporate this into our pre-hiring interview process, we can actually watch and measure how a candidate performs prior to on-the-job training. They can show us, rather than try to explain, how they’ve applied their skills! This is still an evolving concept, but an exciting one nonetheless. The current technology is driving smarter, desired selections!

If candidates should make it past these preliminary rounds, now we can explore new trends that are enhancing the candidate’s experience. Businesses are starting to have informal meetings and/or interviews with candidates. Inviting candidates out to brunch, coffee, or luncheons where they can network and meet other employees is on-trend. The goal is to observe prospective employees in their element, giving recruiters an “inside eye” as to how the candidates respond in different situations. Additionally, this approach is new age, and top talent candidates love it!

One thing is evident; we are steering away from a traditional and formal interviewing format. Employers and recruiters are moving towards a more strategic, quantifiable and modern way of attracting, recruiting and obtaining top talent.
