If you’ve been keeping up with our blogs, you know that technology is in a constant state of advancement. Each day there are both updates to current systems and newly created solutions. With this evergreen flow of information, advancing technology, and fresh IT talent entering the workforce, it is more important than ever that your organization is on top of its game! Developing goals, like the ones we’re suggesting below, and identifying distinct elements to approach and tackle this progressive movement will put you at the forefront.
Attracting New IT Talent
Attracting the new, Millennial talent pool will help grow your organization as well as keep your internal talent up-to-date on current topics and technology. One successful approach to this goal is offering internships, apprenticeship, and even “camps” for high school and college students studying in the field. Get them interested and educated at a younger age! Offering training and education is a top motivator for recruiting and retaining IT talent. There are many ways your company can incorporate this into your priorities.
Continue Advancing
IT workers want to stay present in their field and be compensated for their competencies. Continuing to grow and develop concurrently alongside the advancing field should be another top priority for companies. Offering paid educational programs or certifications is one way to accomplish this. Reinvesting in your workforce not only helps you retain your employees and strengthen your culture, but it gets the outside the active and passive talent pool talking and interested in your company over your competitors!
Invest Back in the Company
This does require that companies invest monetarily, but they also must invest time and additional resources. Continuous engagement and frequent check-ins in the form of surveys or meetings will provide your staff (and not just IT) the opportunity to suggest resources needed to make them successful.
Engage Senior-Level Employees
Be sure to have your senior-level employees engage in supporting and communicating to the entry-level workers as part of resources, reliability, and ongoing updates. Get them involved in those educational programs! Send them to career fairs with your Human Resources Representatives and allow them to discuss the real-life application of the student’s educational pathways.
These are all valuable items to consider implementing in your company’s core concepts. They can be applicable to not only your IT workforce, but all of your organizational talent!
