Do You Suffer from Recruitment Grief?

We’ve all been there before. You’ve been working on your quest to find the perfect Bookkeeper, and the search for the perfect hire has been dragging on and on and on. After scouring the job boards and social media networks for potential candidates day after day, you’ve ended up with a lot of interviews and a few flunky candidates, but still no solid hire.
At this point, you’re probably suffering from something we like to call recruitment grief, and you might even be going through your own versions of the Kubler-Ross stages of grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance; All to cope with the cost spent trying to find the perfect hire, our time and energy wasted that could have been spent doing something more productive, and just the flat-out stress that hiring and recruiting can often induce.
Denial:
“Of all people, why does this have to happen to ME?!”
There is just NO way this is happening! You couldn’t have possibly spent so much effort for nothing! Oh yes, there have even been a few ‘false alarms’ with strong job candidates who backed out at the last minute, or maybe there was even the dreaded no-show – The new hire who didn’t show up for the first day on the job… You know, because according to their astrologer, that day would have been a bad day to step out of their house. But you should be ahead of these things by now! This just can’t be happening to you!
Anger:
“If I get ONE more resume, I’m going to shred it!”
Whatever the reason is, you have been totally unsuccessful in filling the position with a qualified candidate. And almost worse, you’re continuing to be bombarded by the hundreds of emails that come through your inbox with applicants who send their resumes just for the heck of it. You just can’t take it anymore, you’re furious!
Bargaining:
“Well, maybe if I come in just a few hours earlier…”
Now all is seemingly hopeless, and you’re ready to make some sacrifices. Sacrifice your sleep? Check. Sacrifice your sanity? Double check. Maybe you’re even prepared to let go of a few other deals since hiring this Bookkeeper has become the purpose of your existence.
Depression:
“How did it get to this point? What could I have done differently?”
But then, you get the referral for a candidate who has all the right qualities: Accounting experience, a great personality presence, and even an affordable salary expectance. Hallelujah! Now your long, tiring, expensive candidate hunt has not been for naught. Until your perfect candidate’s background check turns up criminal history that simply won’t work for your Bookkeeper role. The kind of criminal act that appears in the top 10 Google search results – Yikes.
Well, now you’re back to square one. And that’s just plain depressing.
Acceptance:
“I KNOW what I need! A SOLUTION!”
Yes! You’ve gotten through your stress-eating and maybe some tears, but you finally accept the fact that you need a solution! What if we told you we have a simple, affordable solution for you? A process that would handle the recruiting and hiring process for you? A solution that would hand you 3 – 5 quality, specially matched candidates to interview? You might be thinking that sounds too good to be true.
